Jeff Landry Officially Announces for Congress!
LOUISIANA’S 3RD CONGRESSIONAL DISTRICT – Republican Jeff Landry today officially announced his candidacy for the 3rd Congressional District seat being vacated by Charlie Melancon. In a special video address AVAILABLE HERE he stated, “Our country is in peril because our government is out of control, caused by a President and a Congress where free spending and liberal values rein where the size of our government is growing as fast as our coast is eroding. All the while our economy is in shambles. We need people to run for office who truly want to serve the public and not rely on the taxpayers as their source of income. I am Jeff Landry that’s why I am running for Congress.”
He was also the featured guest speaker at the Louisiana Republican Party’s statewide breakfast and he met with Republican leaders in Washington, DC including the Chairman of the National Republican Congressional Committee, Congressman Pete Sessions R-TX, and his staff who are responsible for recruiting and coordinating Republican campaigns for Congress. Additionally, while in Washington, Landry met with Congressman Eric Cantor R-VA, the Republican Whip in the House, and Congressman Tom Price R-GA the leader of the conservative caucus in the House.
As has been noted in news articles, Landry – who co-founded a successful oil and gas industry based small business and works as a business attorney - began raising money for the seat on December 9th and quickly amassed the largest total of any Republican candidate in or considering the race. He reported raising nearly $100,000 in the three weeks before and over Christmas and having over $115,000 cash-on-hand as of the Federal Election Commissions December 31st deadline.
Landry launched his website for his race today in concert with his announcement.
The site, which is available at LandryForLouisiana.com uses all of the modern tools of communication, allowing voters to follow him via a Twitter feed, to choose the issues of concern to them through a Take Action page and links to Landry’s Facebook site. Despite just announcing his candidacy, Landry has already amassed almost 1,000 Facebook group followers. Landry’s video announcement is an extension of his online efforts.
In his address Landry notes his support of specific reforms necessary to rein in wasteful Washington spending, including his support for a Balanced Budget Amendment.
He also speaks to a focus on creating new jobs and growing Louisiana’s economy as someone who created jobs as a small business owner, who works with south Louisiana employers everyday as an attorney and as a man who learned the meaning of hard work, having worked in Louisiana’s sugar cane fields in his youth.
Mentioning his eleven years of service in uniform, and as a veteran of Operation Desert Storm, Landry notes we must win the war on terrorism and take care of our veterans who have sacrificed for our freedom.
He talks about his love of the outdoors and need to protect Louisiana’s coast saying, “As a hunter and fisherman – a lifetime member of the NRA and Ducks Unlimited – I know our coast is not only important to our entire way of life, it defines it.”
Assailing the deficit spending of Washington, Landry says, “Nancy Pelosi, a liberal Congress, and the President have spent our nation into record deficits – three times what it was when they took control. Their stimulus plan did not stimulate, it just spent our taxpayer money as unemployment rose. Their bailouts changed the very nature our free market economic system. They have passed budget after budget that spends too much, taxes too much, and borrows too much. Our families, especially our seniors, cannot afford tax increases or this out of control spending.”
Noting his pro-life position and other issues, Landry’s short announcement video available at www.LandryforLouisiana.com provides the voters a picture of what he will do as their next Congressman.
